About ACES

Mission: To support our emergency communications partners by promoting a standard for training and certification of amateur radio operators

Goals:

  • To develop training programs for Amateur Radio Emcomm Resources that meet the training needs of municipal, county, state, federal and private served agencies.
  • To manage a certification process for graduates of training programs which provides credentials that are modeled after NIMS/ICS resource typing.
  • To evaluate and accredit training programs and instructors for emergency communication training.
  • To develop and promote exercises in communications preparedness that allow operators to apply their learned skills.

ACES Basic (Everett, WA)

Snohomish DEM and Snohomish ACS are sponsoring a Basic certification course.  The course fee is $35.  ICS 100, 200 and 700 are required prior to certification.  You may take the course if you haven't completed the FEMA courses and you will receive your ACES certificate after completing the FEMA courses.  Students are required to bring a radio and manual for programming practice and passing traffic.  Pre-registration is required.  Contact Scott N7SS at scott.n7ss@gmail.com with questions of for more information.

ACES Basic (Hillsboro, OR)

Washington County Emergency Management is sponsoring an ACES Basic emergency communications certification course on Saturday October 21 and Sunday October 22. The course will be held at the Washington Street Conference Center, 102 SW Washington Street in downtown Hillsboro, OR.  The course fee is $30 and includes the student workbook.  ICS courses 100, 200, 700 are required for certification.  You may take the course if you haven't completed the ICS courses, but a certificate will not be issued until the ICS courses are completed.  Students are required to bring their radio and manual for programming exercises and passing traffic.  Preregisteration is required. ACES Basic (Virtual)

The Northwest Tribal Emergency Management Council (NTEMC) is sponsoring an ACES Basic certification course.  This course will be held online with new, updated content and will require a device that can provide video and audio with Zoom.  The course fee is $20 per student and includes an electronic version of the student workbook.  IS-100, 200 and 700 ICS courses are required prior to certification.  You may take the class if you haven't completed the FEMA courses and you will receive a completion certificate when you complete the FEMA courses.  Students are required to bring a radio and manual for manual programming practice.  Pre-registration is required.  This class is open to all, however, tribal members will be given priority for seats should the class fill.  Please enter your tribal affiliation (if any) in the Comments section of the signup page.  Contact Scott N7SS at scott.n7ss@gmail.com with questions or for more information.

The course will be held over eight weeks with two hour Wednesday sessions from 4pm to 6pm Pacific time.  Participants will need to attend all eight sessions to receive a certificate.

Oregon ACES Basic Course (Newport, OR)

Lincoln County ACS is sponsoring a BASIC course with the updated Oregon ACES materials.  The course fee is $35.  ICS 100, 200 and 700 are required prior to certification.  You may take the course if you haven't completed the FEMA courses and you will receive your ACES certificate after completing the FEMA courses.  Students are required to bring a radio and manual for programming practice and passing traffic.  Pre-registration is required.  Contact Daron Wilson N7HQR daron@wilson.org with questions or for more information.  Lincoln County ACS members will have their class fee paid by Lincoln County Emergency Management.
