Tillamook County RACES
Daron has been a licensed amateur radio operator for 26 years, is a member of the ARRL, and provides technical training for Lincoln and Tillamook Counties in both RACES and ARES organizations, he is the ACS Chief in Lincoln County. Daron is the chairman of the Oregon Coast Repeater Group, Inc., a non-profit corporation dedicated to supporting emergency communications, he currently chairs the Oregon Region Relay Council, Inc., a non-profit group providing repeater frequency coordination in Oregon, and is a member of the Oregon Emergency Management Association.
Daron has installed and maintains a variety of voice repeaters, linking equipment, the W7GC VHF DSTAR repeater and gateway, legacy packet access points and networks, a DSTAR High-Speed 1.2gHz network, multiple Winlink RMS gateways on 1200 and 9600 baud, and 13 APRS weather stations.
During the infamous storm of 2007, Daron operated a mobile Winlink HF Pactor III station on the Oregon Coast, sending and receiving over 120 messages including situational reports to the Office of Emergency Management and Health and Welfare traffic for Lincoln and Tillamook Counties when no landline, cellphone or internet services were available.
In a former career in the fire service, Daron held the rank of Captain and Training Officer during which time he worked with the Oregon State Fire Marshall developing training competencies for Fire Fighter Certification, and was certified as a Fire Instructor. Daron achieved the NIMS certification of Strike Team Leader and led numerous combination private and BLM strike teams on wild land fires in the Pacific Northwest. Daron has completed the NIMS All Hazards Type 3 Communications Leader training (3COML).
