Scott retired from Microsoft in 2000 and turned his hobby into a passion. He is a founding member of the Microhams amateur radio club and the Pacific NW VHF Society. Through the Microhams, he developed course materials and organizes both Technician and General class courses several times per year. Scott is a past chair and current vice-chair of the Western Washington Amateur Relay Association, a non-profit group responsible for repeater coordination in Western Washington where he is focused on defining spectrum for narrowband and digital modes. Scott is an ARRL life-member and the author of the digital chapter in the 2010 (and later) ARRL Handbooks.
While also working as a computer consultant, he is currently a part-time employee of the Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management as county communications officer and head of the Snohomish ACS team. He owns and installed a DSTAR repeater system that provides county-wide coverage. In addition to local events, Scott travels to amateur radio events around the country and has spoken at events as far from home as Connecticut and Florida. He has been seen the last several years at the Icom booth at Dayton Hamvention demonstrating the latest Icom radio model.
