Washington State Guard Hosts ACES Course

Washington State Guard hosted an ACES Basic Certification course at Camp Murray July 26-27, 2014.  ACES Basic Course at Camp MurrayThe course could not have happened without the organization and support of Monte Simpson K2MLS, who attended and represented the Washington State Guard, Washington State Patrol and is the ARRL Western Washington Section Manager.  Actual course attendance dropped shortly before the course with a number of members responding to wildfires in Eastern Washington.  Attendees represented agencies that included Washington State Guard, Washington State Patrol and came from as far as the National Weather Service Pendleton, OR.  The course was taught by Scott Honaker N7SS, George Boswell K7YHB, Gregg Allyn W7BXF and Grant Hopper KB7WSD and all 19 attendees completed the program.  WSG Commander's CoinLead instructor, Scott Honaker was honored by receiving a Washington State Guard commander's coin presented by Colonel Terry LaRue.

ACES Basic (Tacoma, WA)

Washington Guard is sponsoring an ACES Basic certification course in July. The course fee is $20 per student and includes the student workbook. ICS 100, 200 and 700 are required prior to certification. You may still take the class if you haven't completed the FEMA courses, and you will receive your certificate when you complete the FEMA courses. ACES Basic (Central Point, OR)

Sponsored by Jackson County ARES, this course is taught at the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, 5179 Crater Lake Drive in Central Point, Oregon.  Class size is limited to 25 students, cost for the course is $25 and includes the 320 page student workbook.   Students are required to bring copies of ICS-100, 200 and 700 certificates in order to receive certification.  You may still take the class if you haven't completed the FEMA courses, and you will receive your certificate when you complete the FEMA courses.  Students are required to bring their handheld radio and manual for programming practice and passing traffic.  If you have questions, please contact Don WB7Q donm12@charter.net or Daron N7HQR n7hqr@oregonaces.org

ACES Intro to Radio Operation (Seaside, OR)

This class is open to the public, course cost is $3 per student and pre-registration is required.  This course is designed  to provide the amateur radio operator with the necessary radio skills to participate in the training and exercises in the BASIC certification course.  Students must bring their own own radio and manual, and will be programming the frequency, tones, offset, power level and other features as needed for simplex and repeater operation.  Putting frequencies in memory channel locations, and basic operational procedures will be covered.
